Global Cebu FC bow to Yangon United

Sekou Sylla scored a brace to power Yangon United FC past Global Cebu FC, 3-0 in Group G match of the 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup at the Youth United Centre in Yangon, Myanmar.

The Cebuano side started the game on the right foot with Angelo Marasigan taking the first shot a thegoal in the opening minutes.

The team had the best chance to score several minutes later but Dominic Del Rosario’s strike hit the post.

The Yangon keeper easily controlled the rebound.

Mg Mg Lwin eventually opened the scoring for the host after slotting home a free kick in stoppage time in the first half.

Sylla doubled the lead just two minutes in second half as Yangon United took control of the game.

Sylla completed his double against his former team when he scored another goal in the 57th minute.

Global Cebu had several chances to score in the closing minutes but attempts by Darryl Roberts and Rufo Sanchez were denied by the keeper.

Despite the heavy loss, Global Cebu FC coach Marjo Allado remained hopefull all is not lost for his team.

“We need to score goals and we need to win all our remaining matches to advance,” he said after the game.

By beating Global Cebu FC, Yangon United completed a sweep of the first round of group play.

The Myanmar side now has nine points and is through the next round of the competitions.

The loss is Global Cebu’s second in three games.

The two teams will meet again on March 13 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
