Defending champion De La Salle University came back from a 21-point hole to stun Ateneo De Manila, 92-83 and force a rubber match for the men’s basketball title of UAAP Season 80.

Trailing 49-28 in the second period, the Green Archers bucked Ben Mbala and Ricci Rivero’s foul troubles to mount a comeback. The Taft-based dribblers ignited a 10-0 blast in the closing minutes of the first half to cut the Blue Eagles’ lead to a single digit, 51-42.

But more importantly, the momentum set the tone for the Green Archers’ big comeback in the third quarter. De La Salle went on a 16-7 run to tie the game before Mbala gave the lead to La Salle, 60-58.

The Green Archers never looked back after that.

Game 3 is set on Sunday, December 3, 3:30pm at the Big Dome.
