Green Archers dump Adamson in OT

The De La Salle Green Archers escaped Adamson Falcons’ threat in overtime, 79-78, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, October 13.

Both La Salle and Adamson fought toe-to-toe throughout the game, and after a triple by Santi Santillan with 2:31 remaining in the final period to make it a one-possession game, 62-64, both teams failed to make a basket.

That was until Aljun Melecio went for a go-ahead floater with 13.6 left on the clock to send the game into overtime, 64-all.

Entering the extra period, La Salle rallied nine unanswered points while the Falcons was held scoreless in three minutes.

Adamson tried to avoid another overtime loss, by leaning on the heroics of Jerrick Ahanmisi, Simon Camacho, and Sean Manganti.

However, the Archers already provided enough damage for Adamson, as skipper Kib Montalbo sank both free throws to seal the deal.

Melecio stood tall for the Archers, scoring 22 big points, while Santillan and Justine Baltazar combined for 32 points and 19 rebounds.

Owning a 4-3 record, La Salle still have the upper hand with their latest win- as they are still undefeated in seven games against the Pumaren-led Adamson.

“Pareho kami ng ginagawa – we both do run and jump, and full court defense, siguro if you do that everyday kailangan alam mo rin kung papaano dapat icounter,” said La Salle head coach Louie Gonzales.

Meanwhile, Jerrick Ahanmisi collected 27 points and seven rebounds while Sean Manganti added 23 markers and seven boards.

After leading the standings in first round, Adamson dropped at 5-2 win-loss slate, forcing a three-way tie Ateneo and FEU respectively.
