At the age of 74, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has disclosed the driving force that keeps him engaged in his coaching career.
“Money. Money, money, money,” Popovich said, according to a report from ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.
Popovich has been the head coach of the Spurs since 1996, and he has nothing left to prove. He helped the team win five championships, and he also coached Team USA in the 2020 Olympics, where they won gold.
Last month, the three-time NBA Coach of the Year signed a five-year extension with the Spurs, which means that he will stay at the helm through 2028. This will ensure that he will guide the growth of their 2023 first overall pick, Victor Wembanyama.
This Sunday, Popovich was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame alongside Dwyane Wade, Dirk Nowitzki, Becky Hammon, and former player Tony Parker. (MJD)
