Coach Yeng Guiao is staying put with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters after signing a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the helm through 2030.

Rain or Shine announced the extension through its official social media post, retaining the veteran mentor as the franchise continues its campaign in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup.

Guiao returned to Rain or Shine in 2022 and has since continued to shape the Elasto Painters with his trademark intensity, discipline and emphasis on team culture. He previously led the franchise to its two PBA championships in the 2012 Governors’ Cup and 2016 Commissioner’s Cup.

The extension also drew a warm reaction from former PBA star Mark Cardona, who congratulated Guiao in a Facebook post.

“Congrats po coach Yeng! Ang tunay na coach na may malasakit sa mga players,” said Cardona.

Guiao has long been known for demanding accountability from his players while also establishing strong relationships with the athletes he coaches.

Rain or Shine currently leads Group B of the PBA Governors’ Cup standings with a 4-2 record and a 66.67 percent winning percentage. Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots and Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters are tied at 4-3, followed by Blackwater Bossing at 3-3, Meralco Bolts at 3-5, and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel at 2-4.

With the new deal, Guiao will continue leading Rain or Shine for the next four years, extending his long-running association with a franchise where he has already delivered two championships. (Jesus Nathaniel Valdez)
