Guiao still finding a solution to Paul Lee
It seemed that Yeng Guiao of the NLEX Road Warriors created his own poison while he was coaching Paul Lee of the Magnolia Hotshots during their run with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters as his former star has swept all their games against his former coach.
“Paul is on his own now. He is with a different team and with a different coach. I’m sure that he is making good use of what he has learned while we were together but that is his own now,” said Guiao.
During their recent match-up, Lee put out 21 points, four assists and three rebounds. Enough for the Hotshots go over the Road Warriors, 105-94.
“When we play each other, I have to find a way to shut him down. We were not successful today but will continue to find ways to shut him down. Hindi naman ito huling pagkikita naming,” said Guiao. Sa susunod, mas paghahandaan pa siguro namin.
The competition is something that the former teammates are now enjoying.
“Actually, competitive din naman siya. Actually, we are both competitive and he wants to play his best when we play against him and me on the other side, I want to stop him as much as we can as a team.”
As they parted ways to start the 42 nd season of the PBA, Lee’s Hotshots made the semi-finals in all the three PBA conferences while Guiao’s team struggled early on with their best campaign during the Governor’s Cup ended in a quarter-final exit.
“Ganoon lang yun, we enjoyed playing together but now, we must also enjoy playing against each other.
Ganoon lang naman iyon. So far now, I think mas naunang mag-mature team niya, kami nagma-mature pa lang. Pero pagdating ng panahon namin, kami naman ang makabawi. Pana-panahon lang iyan.”
