An old adage once said that a new hair is a sign of a new beginning, same as the thought behind the newly dyed hair of Alaska Aces’ forward Calvin Abueva.
Abueva led the Aces to victory against NLEX Road Warriors with 23 points and boarded eight significant rebounds. But what’s more surprising than his monster outing last night, was his new gold hair.
Abueva came off the bench for Alaska in the first quarter and donned his crowd-attracting hair-do. A lot of fans inside the Big Dome and around social media expressed their love for Abueva’s new hair color, which also gave birth to a new moniker for the Aces star – the Golden Beast.
In the interview after the game, Abueva shared that his new hair was intended to show new life, new beginning.
“New hair, new life,” Abueva said.
“New Beginning. New Event. Para sa paparating na playoffs.”
At the last period of the game, Abueva had clutch rebounds and delivered buckets to help Alaska escaped past NLEX’s gritty plays.
The new hair might have bolstered Abueva’s guts and dominance in the game as they thrash NLEX, 104-98. But it does not diminish the fact that Abueva might have also taken his on-court value to the next level.
One thing is for sure, the beast as golden beast will be tougher.
