THE Department of Justice has reportedly issued subpoenas to coaches involved in the Ateneo de Manila University team-building activity in Aurora that resulted in the deaths of two Blue Eagles student-athletes last June.
According to an informant of Abante Bilyonaryo Group’s Homer Sayson, the DOJ has summoned the coaches as the investigation into the June 8 incident continues.
The informant also claimed that charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide are imminent, with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Rodelyn Baterbonia, mother of Ateneo player Rene Clert “Bobet” Baterbonia, identified as complainants.
The reported development comes nearly three months after Baterbonia and teammate Divine Adili died during an off-campus team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora.
The incident has since prompted investigations into the circumstances surrounding the activity, including the events that preceded the deaths of the two student-athletes.
The DOJ has yet to publicly announce the filing of criminal charges based on the information provided, and the reported subpoenas and impending charges remain subject to official confirmation.
Reckless imprudence resulting in homicide is a criminal offense involving death allegedly caused by negligence or lack of precaution, rather than an intentional act. (By the Staff)
