‘I’ll go to battle anytime with the Bulldogs’ says NU coach Jamike Jarin despite another disappointing loss

Once again, NU just cannot seal the deal this Season 82.

This time, the Jhocson-based squad was so close in stealing the victory right after Dave Ildefonso converted a triple in the crunch time, with 11.3 ticks left in the game.

The Bulldogs had the chance to capitalize on UP’s Dave Murrell bluffed free throw shot, but as soon as Ildefonso found an open John Lloyd Clemente, Jaydee Tungcab was quick to contest the game-winning attempt, as the game was given to the Fighting Maroons, 80-79.

Now that NU was not able to avoid a 0-4 hole, this was the reaction of NU head coach Jamike Jarin — “is this for real?”

Kidding aside, the former San Beda mentor gave credit to Ildefonso and Clemente for making the right play down the line.

“The thing is, what I told the boys right after the game is that I was just proud of how Dave Ildefonso gave up the pass to an open John Lloyd Clemente,” Jarin said.

“Unfortunately, he was covered pretty well on the recovery, and buo naman loob niya. He took the shot, and it just didn’t go in.”

Overall, Jarin commended the boys for their valiant effort in the last four games of Season 82.

“Wala ka nang mahihiling sa mga bata. You have to be proud with these young men and the people around you,”

NU may still have a winless outing, but three of those matches were just a point away to victory and one was just a case of faltering in the overtime period.

“Yes we’re zero and four, but again, hey, it’s a game of basketball. Somebody has to lose. Ang maipagmamalaki ko lang, all the teams that we fought, we played, they can’t say na ‘Suwerte nga kayo nakadikit kami.’ I think they’ll say, ‘Hey, you gave us a real scare, and you guys deserve to win as much as we do,'” Jarin said.

At the end of the day, Jarin will always be proud of his current lineup no matter what.

“You have to feel good. You’re disappointed, of course, but you have to feel good because, I’ll go to battle anytime with these men because you know they have your back.”
