The Philippine women’s volleyball team concluded the first leg of the 2023 Southeast Asia V.League without a win, as Indonesia swept them 25-20, 25-17, and 25-21 on Sunday night at the Vinh Phuc Hall in Vietnam.
Under the guidance of Norman Miguel, the Philippine squad finished last among the four teams in the three-day first leg, losing all three matches.
Despite the Philippines keeping in step with Indonesia in the first set, trailing 19-21, the latter’s players, Hany Budiarti, Medi Yoku, Arneta Putri, and Ratri Wulandari, made crucial contributions to secure the set win.
The pattern repeated in the second set as the Philippine team trailed 16-14, but Indonesia’s consecutive points from Fadhillah allowed them to break away and secure a 2-0 set advantage.
In the third set, the Philippines trailed 16-20, but they displayed resilience and managed to tie the score at 20-all with consecutive points from Alyssa Solomon and Mhicaela Belen. However, Indonesia responded strongly, with contributions from Budiarti, Yoku, and Fadhillah, securing the win.
The national women’s volleyball team aims to bounce back in the second leg of the tournament scheduled from August 11 to 13 in Thailand.
