Humanity and sportsmanship just prevailed in the 30th SEA Games.
Indonesia President Joko Widodo took time to commend PH surfer Roger Casugay for his heroic deed towards the Indonesian surfer.
“Winning the competition and upholding sportsmanship is important, but humanity is above all,” said Widodo on his official Twitter account.
“My appreciation for Roger Casugay, a Filipino surfer who lost the chance to gain gold to save an Indonesian athlete from falling during the competition.”
Memenangkan kompetisi dan menjunjung sportivitas itu penting, tapi kemanusiaan di atas segalanya.

Casugay was applauded by most fans on social media for rescuing his Indonesian competitor Arip Nurhidyat when the latter’s surfboard was broken into half right in the middle of the men’s longboard event.
Meanwhile, Casugay was chosen by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to be the Philippines’ flag-bearer in the SEA Games closing ceremony.
