Central Visayas leaned on a strong fourth quarter run to unseat National Capital Region, 77-73, in the finals of the 2023 Palarong Pambansa secondary boys basketball on Saturday at the Marikina Sports Center in Marikina City.
Jared Bahay, who recently committed to play for the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in college, spearheaded the Central Visayas offense as they captured their first Palaro gold after 10 years.
Trailing for most of the game, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu-represented Central Visayas went on a huge run in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 73-all with under two minutes in the game.
Bahay then took over the offense for the Central Visayas with four straight points to complete their upset over NCR, which was represented by UAAP Season 85 high school boys runner-up Nazareth School of National University Bullpups.
In the elementary boys division, Western Visayas, represented by Bacolod Tay Tung High School, clinched the championship after a 67-52 victory over Northern Mindanao.
