OFFICIALS and personalities linked to the Abra Solid North Weavers recently met in what could signal preparations for the team’s upcoming campaign in the East Asia Super League (EASL).
Abra lone district representative Joseph “JB” Bernos shared a photo of his meeting with Strong Group Athletics owner Frank Lao and businessman Christian “Bigboy” Cheng, accompanied by the caption, “One Small Partnership, One Big Step for Philippine Basketball.”
The meeting comes shortly after the Abra Weavers secured a historic opportunity to represent the country in the 2026-27 EASL season.
No details were disclosed about the purpose of the gathering, but the timing has fueled speculation that discussions may have centered on Abra’s preparations for its first appearance in the regional competition.
Abra will face clubs from some of Asia’s top domestic leagues, including Japan’s B.LEAGUE, South Korea’s KBL, Taiwan’s P. LEAGUE+ and Macau.
For Abra, the EASL stint represents a major step beyond the domestic scene and will provide the squad champions an opportunity to measure themselves against established professional clubs from across Asia.
The EASL is expected to release the 2026-27 schedule, groupings and Abra’s opening assignments in the coming weeks. (Adrian Co)
