Jia Morado Explains National Tryouts Absence
“It is true that health and safety concerns, stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, made me hesitate to take part in the tryout,” Jia Morado said in an official statement.
The Creamline Cool Smashers setter revealed that she skipped the national women’s volleyball team tryouts in Subic Bay because of concerns on health protocols.
Morado, who donned the national team jersey countless times, feared catching COVID-19 after being told by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation they were going to “travel to MOA (Mall of Asia) and Subic, and then home again.”
Morado also said that she raised her concerns to the Athletes’ Commission of the PNVF, headed by her friend, Alyssa Valdez – who has yet to comment on whether they addressed Morado’s concerns.
