Jordan’s national squad is hoping to get some crowd support from Filipino fans when they campaign for the FIBA World Cup 2023, especially after securing naturalized player Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.
Hollis-Jefferson is very familiar to Pinoys, as he led Talk ‘N Text to a title win against Ginebra in the PBA Governors’ Cup.
“We know how much the Filipino fans like him here, so I think that’s an addition we’re looking forward to,” Jordan head coach Wesam Al-Sous said in a report by ABS-CBN News.
Hollis-Jefferson will spearhead Jordan’s campaign against the United States, Greece, and New Zealand in Group C.
Jordan is also counting on its strong buildup heading into the Cup, defeating Mexico, Portugal, and Angola to rule the recent Kings Cup pocket tourney.
“We’re here to take care of business, to show people that Jordan has an advanced basketball [system], that we can play at that level, that we belong to the top teams, the top tiers,” said the Jordan coach.
Jordan will kick off its FIBA World Cup campaign against Greece on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
