Jordi Goméz de Liaño Headed to UST Growling Tigers
University of the Philippines Integrated School gunner Jordi Goméz de Liaño is headed to the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers for college.
In a report by Watchmen Daily Journal, the 6-foot-5 forward opted to go to the Growling Tigers rather than joining his elder brothers Juan and Javi Goméz de Liaño due to opportunities presented by the UST.
“At first, Jordi really wanted to play with his brothers in UP. But, after careful thinking and weighing all the options, he opted to go with UST as he saw himself flourishing there,” according to the newspaper’s source.
The 18-year-old Jordi is a great addition for the Growling Tigers camp after losing several key players last year in the aftermath of the “Sorsogon training bubble” under then UST head coach Aldin Ayo.
Jordi has made a name for himself in the UAAP juniors basketball scene as an effective floor-spacer during his time with the UPIS Junior Fighting Maroons.
He was also selected by Gilas Pilipinas Youth coach Sandy Arespacochaga to compete for a final roster spot in the Philippines’ FIBA Under-17 Asian Championship lineup last year but the coronavirus disease 2019 has cancelled the international tournament.
