JOSHUA Munzon is set to remain with the Titan Ultra Giant Risers after the team definitively ruled out trading him to another PBA squad.
Titan Ultra team manager Barbie Arsolon confirmed that the organization is already working on a new contract for the veteran forward.
“No trade,” Arsolon said in a message to Fastbreak on Saturday. “Yes, we are preparing his contract (extension).”
Munzon, a former PBA top-overall pick, had been at the center of trade talks with TNT Tropang 5G and other PBA squads for several months.
The Tropang 5G had reportedly explored multiple packages for the Fil-Am forward, including a proposal involving veteran Rey Nambatac and Glenn Khobuntin.
The talks later centered on a package that would have sent Munzon to TNT for reserve big man Joe Celzo and a future first-round draft pick. Titan Ultra ultimately decided not to proceed with the transaction.
The Giant Risers had also reportedly sought a more substantial return, with Jordan Heading mentioned as a preferred target in exchange for Munzon.
The 29-year-old Munzon has been one of Titan Ultra’s key contributors this conference, averaging 15.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists in eight games.
He established himself as one of the PBA’s promising two-way players during his breakout season with NorthPort last year, earning Most Improved Player honors and a place on the All-Defensive Team.
With the trade now off the table and a new contract being prepared, Titan Ultra appears intent on keeping Munzon as part of its plans moving forward. (Adrian Co)
