Just like Roach wants it: Pacquiao to do last leg of training in GenSan
WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will push through with the plan to conduct the last phase of his training in his hometown despite prevailing military rule in Mindanao.
In fact, today (Sunday), Pacquiao and his training team led by chief trainer Freddie Roach flies to General Santos City.
The 37-year-old fighting senator is in the thick of his preparation for the July 2 fight against Australian Jeff Horn in Brisbane.
The trip to GenSan was confirmed by media aide Aquil Zonio.
According to Zonio, Pacquiao will train in GenSan from June 5 to 24, or his tentative date of departure for Australia.
It was also Roach’s wish to have Pacquiao train in GenSan to get rid of some distractions in their training.
Roach has also said that he feels much secured just being around “Pacman.”
The revered coach was alluding to the incident at Resorts World Manila where a lone gunman launched an attack, killing 38 people.
“I don’t know where more people are killed here or there? I mean, I’m talking the truth, right?” said Roach.
While in GenSan, Team Pacquiao will implement a stricter policy during road work and training at the gym, Zonio added.
Visiting friends, fans and politicians will also be subjected to a curfew, which will start at 10 p.m. (Emile Rios)
