Justin Brownlee doubtful for Gilas in upcoming FIBA Asian qualifiers

JUSTIN Brownlee’s availability for Gilas Pilipinas in the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers remains doubtful as the naturalized Filipino continues to recover from multiple injuries.

Brownlee is currently in San Diego, California, where he is undergoing rehabilitation for ankle and hamstring issues, according to an informant who spoke to Abante Bilyonaryo Group’s Homer Sayson.

The Gilas coaching staff is taking a cautious approach with the veteran forward and is not looking to rush him back while he works toward full recovery.

Brownlee remains an important part of the national team program, but his current condition leaves his participation in the upcoming qualifying games uncertain.

The 38-year-old forward has been a key figure in the Philippines’ recent international campaigns, most notably helping Gilas win the men’s basketball gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

With the qualifiers happening at the end of the month, Gilas is expected to closely monitor Brownlee’s progress before determining whether he will be fit to return to national team duties. (Adrian Co)
