Justin Brownlee ready to play for Gilas once he is naturalized
Justin Brownlee’s chance of playing for Gilas Pilipinas might become a huge possibility once he has been granted his Philippine citizenship.
1Pacman Representatives Mikee Romero, Enrico Pineda, Aristotle Aumentado, and Scott Lanete proposed the House Bill No. 8106, filing a bill for naturalization of the resident Barangay import.
“(Brownlee) has brought enormous pride and joy to the Philippine Basketball Association as well as to all basketball enthusiasts in the country. He said he can have a house here just like Norman Black or other imports who have fallen in love with the Filipinos and the Philippines,” the bill stated.
Aside from settling in the Philippines for good and wanting to become a Filipino, the Georgia native has also been vocal about his interest to play alongside Gilas Pilipinas once the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) will call him up.
“With very decorated and illustrious career, he wishes to play for the Philippine National team, he also wants the Philippines to be his permanent home,” the bill also added.
Brownlee led the Kings with three championships, two of which came in the 2016 and 2017 PBA Governor’s Cup and recently in 2018 Commissioner’s Cup that also earned him the Best Import plum.
Brownlee’s service would be a welcome addition to the national team once he becomes a naturalized Filipino – given his accolades and impact to the Philippine basketball.
