Justin Brownlee’s future with Ginebra remains uncertain

BARANGAY Ginebra San Miguel head coach Tim Cone admitted that Justin Brownlee’s future with the team remains uncertain as the Gin Kings await the resumption of the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup next month.

Asked whether Brownlee is still dealing with an injury or is considering retirement, Cone gave a candid response.

“Both perhaps. You’d have to ask him,” Cone told Fastbreak on Friday.

The statement adds uncertainty to the status of the three-time PBA Best Import, who has been dealing with injury concerns and has yet to confirm whether he will return to action.

Brownlee missed Gilas Pilipinas campaign in the fourth window of the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers and 2026 Asian Games reportedly due to various injuries.

Brownlee’s availability is a major concern for Ginebra, which is preparing for the continuation of its title campaign in the Governors’ Cup.

The naturalized player has been a key figure in the Kings’ success over the years, helping the franchise win seven championships and establishing himself as one of the league’s most decorated imports.

With the conference set to resume in October, Ginebra has yet to make a final decision on its import situation.

Cone also said there was no update yet on whether the team would search for another reinforcement or bring back Riley Grigsby.

For now, Brownlee’s health and decision on his playing future remain the biggest questions surrounding the Kings. (Adrian Co)
