JV Gallego assures NU will be ‘scarier’ next season

The NU Bulldogs have nothing to lose already this Season 82, but that does not mean that they won’t go out and fight anymore.

Such was the case for them during Wednesday’s game against UP Fighting Maroons where both teams had to go a heart-wrenching finish, but it was the latter who stood tall eventually, 80-77.

However, a bright spot emerged for the NU Bulldogs, and it wasn’t just Dave Ildefonso but also JV Gallego.

The 21-year-old had his career-game of 20 points, five rebounds, and three assists for the Bulldogs in his first starting role this season.

“Credit kay Coach Jamike (Jarin) kasi inistart niya ako this game. So as a starter, siyempre, you have to perform. You have to meet this level ng expectations ni Coach Jamike, so ginawa ko lang best ko,” he shared.

It wasn’t a perfect showing for the combo guard when he fumbled two crucial lay-ups down the stretch when NU was down by 73-77.

However, Gallego made it all up with a crafty lay-up of his own to push and even found an open Sean Ildefonso for a three-pointer in an attempt to scare UP.

“Nagpapasalamat ako kasi binigyan pa rin ako ng chance ng teammates ko after nun kasi binigay nila bola sa akin, then nakashoot naman ako,” he shared.

NU is now out of the playoff contention, and all they have to do is to apply all the learnings that they experienced this Season 82.

“Learning this season — siguro yung mga first round namin na games medyo nag-relax kami sa huli, doon kami natalo. Maturity pa rin yung magiging composed sa end games, sana dumating na yun sa amin next season,” Gallego shared.

Interestingly, the young NU squad will enter next season as seasoned veterans already, and Gallego hopes to bank on their experience for them to be much more formidable.

“Wala gagraduate sa amin. Expect more chemistry sa amin… mas magiging mature kami and kami yung sana maging beterano next season, kumbaga yung katakutan kami kasi may experience na NU.
