JVee Casio gets the job done

JVee Casio capped Alaska’s triumphant return to the playoffs with his first career triple-double against Rain or Shine, in the process earning the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week for the period of February 19-24.

A deadly gunner since his UAAP days with La Salle, Casio showed he was not just a scorer as he grabbed 10 rebounds and issued the same number assists to go along with his team-high 22 points in Alaska’s 99-95 win over Rain or Shine last Friday.

The 31-year-old Alaska playmaker sealed the win by burying two foul shots inside the last 11 seconds to secure the Aces’ spot in the best-of-three quarterfinals, closing the elimination round with a 7-4 card.

This marks the Aces’ return to the playoffs since missing the post season in the two import-spiced conferences last year.

Casio, the league’s top overall pick in the 2011 PBA Rookie Draft, sparkled in a game that saw the Aces miss Gilas mainstays Calvin Abueva and Carl Bryan Cruz as well as injured guard Chris Banchero.

The sweet-shooting Casio beat teammate Marion Magat, GlobalPort big man Kelly Nabong, Blackwater’s JP Erram, Arwind Santos and Marcio Lassiter of San Miguel as well as Magnolia’s Paul Lee for the weekly citation.
