Filipino center Kai Sotto has urged for support from hoops fans as he begins his campaign with the Orlando Magic in the 2023 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas this weekend.
In a short clip posted by the Magic’s Facebook page, Sotto shared that he had his first practice with Orlando as they prepare for their first game in the week-long competition.
The 7-foot-3 Sotto is the lone legitimate center on Orlando’s Summer League roster, making him a candidate for huge minutes in the tournament.
Sotto is hoping to become the first homegrown Filipino player to earn a regular roster spot in the NBA.
The Magic will face the Detroit Pistons on July 9, the Indiana Pacers on July 11, the New York Knicks on July 13, and the Portland Trail Blazers on July 14, all in Manila time.
