Kai Sotto assured Filipino basketball fans that he is still committed to the national team for the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
Sotto’s stint with Gilas has been clouded with uncertainty over the past few days, with coach Chot Reyes revealing that the NBA prospect has not joined the team’s practice since arriving from the US.
According to Sotto, his back is still hurting. However, he assured that he would do everything for the national team.
“Last communication namin [ni coach Chot] ‘yun nga mag practice ako even though may iniinda pa rin ako sa likod, at least I’ll still be there na gawin kung ano ‘yung makakaya ko,” Sotto said in an ambush interview by ONE Sports on Sunday.
“The day after may sinabi siyang iba pero ewan ko, hindi ko na alam sa kanya,” he added.
The NBA prospect added that it will be determined tomorrow if he can join the team in the pocket tournament in China.
“Hindi pa sure. Siguro bukas after practice,” Sotto said.
Sports columnist Homer Sayson tweeted on Sunday that a source from Sotto’s camp told him that the 7’3 center would miss the pocket tournament. (MJD)
