Kai Sotto will skip Gilas’ campaign in King Abdullah, FIBA Asia Cup
Kai Sotto will not rejoin with Gilas Pilipinas in the King Abdullah Cup in Jordan and the Fiba Asia Cup in Jakarta.
The 7-foot-3 center is set to fulfill his commitments with the Adelaide 36ers in the National Basketball League in Australia, and his camp is working on his papers and documents as well heading Down Under.
“We were told that Kai would be fulfilling his commitments with Adelaide. His management team informed us that Kai is bound to join his new team as soon as possible,” said the SBP’s special assistant Ryan Gregorio.
Which means that the 19-year old will not suit up for the upcoming King’s Cup on July 25 and FIBA Asia Cup on August 17.
“With this development, we are moving forward with our preparations without Kai,” Gregorio said.
Sotto made an immediate impact in Gilas’ campaign in FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers in Clark averaging 9.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.
He also provided solid numbers in Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade where he posted 9.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
