Kazakhstan head coach fulfills promise to pull out shocker against Gilas
Kazakhstan head coach Renatas Kurilionokas knows how to fulfill his promise.
The night before Kazakhstan was set to face Gilas Pilipinas in the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers fifth window, Kurilionokas has made it clear that their second encounter would be much different, after coming from a 59-96 blowout loss during the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
Not only did the 28-year-old coach kept his words, but he was able to leave the Filipino fans in Mall of Asia Arena disappointed, after Kazakhstan shock Gilas Pilipinas, 92-88.
“Different flights, different condition. We’re not tired, we have time to prepare, and we came out as winners. It’s very easy, yes,” said Kurilionokas.
Kazakhtan boosted their chance at making it to the World Cup, as tgey improved their record at 4-5. Team Pilipinas slipped at 5-4 after absorbing a heartbreaking loss.
For Kurilionokas, he is more than grateful for the opportunity that they got in this competition.
I just want to thank the guys, thanks to the basketball federation of Kazakhstan that they believe in us. Thanks for this opportunity,” he stated.
