Ken Salado Na, Ken Sagulo Pa Sa Barangay Ginebra
Aside from second year guard Ken Salado, defending champions Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings will also have Ken Sagulo in its lineup come the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup.
Ken Sagulo, however, is Ken Holmqvist, the Kings second round pick during the recent PBA Rookie Draft.
According to Kings head coach Tim Cone, the 6-foot-8 former Far Eastern University Tamaraws center wants to have his mother’s maiden name of Sagulo used in his jersey instead of his father’s surname of Holmqvist.
“He told me that he doesn’t want to be known as Ken Holmqvist. He rather be known as Ken Sagulo which is his mother’s maiden name,” Cone said in an interview with The Chasedown on Saturday.
“He claims he didn’t knew his father very well and his mother was the one who raised him and he is the one who is close to her. He would like to be known from his mother’s name rather than his father’s name,” he added.
According to the Kings mentor, the request of Holmqvist for a change of surname has already been submitted to the PBA Commissioner’s Office for approval.
“We talked to the PBA about putting his name on the back of his jersey kinda like what Jayson Castro does. It’s kinda the same thing with Ken. But there are some procedurals that we have to go through in terms of paper work that we have to submit to the PBA before it can get done. But that’s his intention at some point,” said Cone.
