Kevin Durant’s mom, Wanda Durant, appeared as a guest on the show Good Morning America on Thursday (Manila time) to share her thoughts and give an update on her son’s unfortunate injury. Kevin flew to New York and recently posted on Instagram about his successful surgery for his ruptured Achilles tendon.
“Emotionally, it’s a little tough for him. Physically, of course, you all saw he went down. He’s having a rough time right now,” Wanda shared.
Wanda wasn’t in the Raptors arena to watch Game 5 live personally, but as she watched from the comforts of her home, her heart broke as she saw how her son limp his way out of the court after only 12 minutes of playing.
“I was excited because he was doing so well and then when it happened I kinda just sunk,” Wanda said. “I was just glued on him and glued on his eyes to see how he was doing.”
“(It was) hurtful to see the anguish in his eyes and he looked as though he felt somewhat dejected.”
She also said that she had a chance to talk to Kevin minutes after he acquired his injury.
“I talked to him about 5-10 minutes afterward and he told me not to cry. Because you know he just worked so hard to get back to play. He just told me not to worry, it’s going to be okay,” she said.
Wanda also took this chance to thank all the fans who wished for her son’s complete recovery.
“To the fans all over the world who have sent us their prayers, who have contacted me over my social media, sent general responses, I’m just so grateful and our family is thankful,” she said. “And so for that, we have complete gratitude.”
