Kia Picanto credits ‘soul-searching’ in overcoming losing slump

The losing woes of Kia Picanto ended last Saturday after earning a victory over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters at the Cuneta Astrodome to break a 16-game spell that has plagued them since May, 2017.

In just his third game as the head coach of Kia, Ricky Dandan addressed the team’s concerns by looking within themselves.

“We dug deep for positives and everything that kept us going,” said Dandan.

Suffering their second blowout of the Philippine Cup under Dandan, Kia spent the last three practices re- evaluating themselves. After which, the team agreed that everything lies in their hands.

“We all agreed that whatever happens that whatever situation on the floor, we will not stop fighting,” he said.

“Basketball was not our problem definitely. It was in us.”

“We identified that, I showed them the Magnolia and the Alaska third-quarter—I told them this is not about technicalities, this is not about basketball, so we accepted it, accepted the weaknesses and like I mentioned in the previous interviews, we do have active weaknesses and we need time to strengthen them but they accepted all of these problems and they knew how to solve it. It was solvable among us, hindi kailangan ng external motivation for that, it was really among us. Nasa sa amin.”

Kia try to keep the fire burning when they match-up against the Meralco Bolts on January 24, Wednesdsay at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
