Veteran hitter Myla Pablo admitted that the absence of star player Kim Kianna Dy due to injury created an insurmountable void that the rest of the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers players struggled to fill.
According to Pablo, the Cargo Movers possessed the necessary tools to compete for the Premier Volleyball League Invitational title. However, Dy’s untimely right knee injury dealt a significant blow to their chances.
“I think three weeks ata dapat ‘yung pahinga niya, so hindi namin pwedeng pilitin ‘yung bata. Syempre health niya ‘yun,” Pablo said after their straight-set loss to Kuroshiki Ablaze of Japan on Tuesday.
“Itong game naman namin naging maganda rin naman ‘yung takbo pero nagkulang lang din talaga. Siguro, hindi naman sa hinahanap namin si Kianna sa loob ng court, pero malaking bagay din talaga si Kianna sa amin, especially sa blocking, sa opensa niya,” she added.
Pablo further expressed that the Cargo Movers had a strong desire to secure a victory against the visiting Japanese team in honor of Dy. However, they were defeated convincingly in three sets.
“Para kay Kianna sana ‘tong game na ‘to pero hindi namin nakuha ‘yung win. Pero at least binigay namin ‘yung best namin,” said the former National University Lady Bulldogs star.
“May next conference pa naman e, so I think mas better na rin na i-pahinga namin si Kianna this conference,” Pablo went on.
The Cargo Movers appeared to be on track for strong title contention in the mid-season conference, having dominated four out of their five group stage games. However, their prospects were derailed when Dy suffered a knee injury at the start of the single-round robin semifinals.
Regine Diego’s mentored squad, which secured a bronze medal finish in the All-Filipino Conference earlier this year, has been eliminated from finals contention with a 1-3 slate.
