*clinched Final Four berth
Letran seeks a fitting follow up to its giant-sized upset victory over Lyceum of the Philippines University as it tackles an unpredictable San Sebastian College today for a Final Four berth in the 94th NCAA basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
The Knights snatched an 80-79 victory over the Pirates in a game decided by a referee downgrading a three-point basket made by LPU’s Jaycee Marcelino Friday that handed the former their 11th victory in 15 outings and at least a playoff for a Final Four spot.
They will get that ticket and join early entrant San Beda (14-1) and LPU (14-2) with a victory over the Stags, who are already out of it all with a 4-11 (win-loss) mark, in their 2 p.m. duel.
Larry Muyang and Bong Quinto will be the players to watch on this one after coming through big last game with the former bulldozing his way to 23 points and 16 rebounds and the latter scattering 20 points.
Perpetual Help, for its part, eyes at least a playoff for Final Four slot as it tackles Emilio Aguinaldo at 4 p.m.
The Altas came back to overcome the San Sebastian Stags, 85-77, in overtime Friday that booked the former their fifth straight win and 10th overall against five defeats.
Perpetual Help edged EAC, 76-74, in its first-round encounter on July 26.
