SOUTH Korean coach Jang Min Seok has taken on an expanded role at Aguilas UMAK (University of Makati) FC, becoming the club’s chairman while continuing as head coach.
The move puts Jang at the center of Aguilas UMAK FC’s broader football program as the club looks to establish itself as a competitive and sustainable force in the Philippine Football League.
Jang, who holds an AFC Pro License, will now be involved in areas beyond the first team, including player development, youth programs, infrastructure, international partnerships and the club’s long-term football strategy.
Aguilas UMAK FC president Mike Atayde and Luis Atayde welcomed Jang’s expanded responsibilities as the club continues to develop its program.
“I did not come to the Philippines simply to coach a team. I came here to build something that can last,” Jang said.
“Our goal is to win, but winning alone is not enough. I want to help build a strong club, develop young Filipino players and create opportunities for them to compete internationally.”
Jang also hopes to combine his experience in Korean football with the talent available in the Philippines as Aguilas UMAK FC works toward becoming a stronger presence both locally and in regional competitions.
“Aguilas UMAK FC is not just a team for one season. We are building for the future,” he said. “My dream is to make this club a champion and take Aguilas UMAK FC onto the Asian stage.”
Jang previously attended Hongik University and emerged as a highly regarded prospect in the 1995 class. His performances earned him the No. 1 overall selection in the 1999 K-League draft by Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC.
He also represented South Korea at both youth and senior international levels during his playing career.
After retiring as a player, Jang moved into coaching and subsequently earned advanced coaching qualifications through the AFC and Korea Football Association.
With Jang now overseeing both the club’s football operations and first team, Aguilas UMAK FC is positioning its program around a longer-term development plan rather than focusing solely on immediate results. (Adrian Co)
