CREAMLINE Cool Smashers began its bid for the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference title on a winning note, defeating Nxled Chameleons, 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, Monday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Cool Smashers survived a late challenge from the Chameleons to secure their first victory in the six-team tournament and join defending champions PLDT High Speed Hitters as the early winners.
Kyle Negrito played a key role in steering Creamline’s offense, finishing with 31 excellent sets and six points, on four points on attacks, along with a block and a service ace.
Creamline appeared headed for a straight-set victory after taking the first two frames, but Nxled fought back in the third.
The Chameleons moved to set point after a crucial back-row attack error by Alyssa Valdez. Jonah Sabete-Escamilla then delivered on the ensuing play to give Nxled the third set, 25-23, and extended the match.
Creamline quickly regained its composure in the fourth set, pulling away when it mattered most to close out the match and avoid a deciding fifth frame.
Creamline will return to action on Tuesday against Ho Chi Minh City at 6:30pm, while Nxled will try to bounce back against PLDT at 1:30pm. (Adrian Co)
