Lady Spikers stand tall over arch rival Lady Eagles

An empathic opening statement for the La Salle squad.

The Lady Archers drew first blood in their first meeting against the arch rival Ateneo Lady Eagles, 25-17, 17-25, 25-17, 25-15, in the UAAP Season 82 women’s volleyball tournament, Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Tied at 1-1 heading into the third set, Ateneo’s string of costly errors allowed the Taft-based squad to orchestrate a 14-3 run en route to a 25-17 finish.

La Salle would continue its hot surge in the fourth frame with a 16-3 pounding which ultimately lead to a 20-7 edge.

From then on, the Lady Spikers never looked back and sealed the deal against the Season 81 champs with a Leila Cruz block.

“Very crucial na game for us isa pa pag ganitong first game (nandiyan) yung tinatawag na first game jitters,” said La Salle head coach Ramil Dela Cruz.

“Pero kita naman natin kahit bata yung players namin medyo nakikita mo nawawala pero siyempre nakakabalik din.”

Senior Tin Tiamzon finished the game with 17 points while Jolina Dela Cruz had 13 markers for La Salle.

Despite committing 33 total errors, La Salle made use of their balance attack to overwhelm the Lady Eagles.

Meanwhile, Rookie Faith Nisperos was the lone Lady Eagle who scored double-digits with 13 points.
