Lea Salonga takes center stage at US Open men’s doubles

FILIPINA Broadway star Lea Salonga made a special appearance at the US Open in New York, joining the players for the ceremonial coin toss before the men’s doubles quarterfinal match on Thursday.

Salonga stood at center court alongside Simone Bolelli, Andrea Vavassori, Neal Skupski and Christian Harrison ahead of their quarterfinal matchup at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows.

The appearance came just days after Salonga reached another milestone in her career. On September 4, she became the first Filipino artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The US Open appearance added a sporting moment to a week that had already been significant for the acclaimed performer, who has built an international career through theater and music.

Salonga’s presence at the Grand Slam tournament also drew attention from Filipino fans, with images of her coin-toss duties circulating on social media. (Adrian Co)
