Lojera salvages Archers from Bulldogs’ late rally
One down for La Salle!
The Green Archers dismantled NU Bulldogs despite its late rally, 83-82, in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, on Wednesday September 11.
La Salle was up by 14, 80-66, late in the final frame of the game when Shaun Ildefonso and John Lloyd Clemente led a 16-1 comeback that gave NU an 81-82 lead with 28.1 ticks remaining
Kurt Lojera would be the La Salle’s saviour, as he sank a go-ahead corner jumper with 14 seconds on the clock to steal the game, 83-82.
“It showed in the last quarter that we were rattled. Good thing we were able to push through. Good thing Kurt had that jumper from the corner and it was a good learning experience for us,” said La Salle head coach Gian Nazario.
Justine Baltazar led the Archers with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Jaime Orme-Malonzo scored all of his 14 markers in the second half to go with eight of his 11 boards on the offensive end.
Lojera tallied six points while Aljun Melecio had 10 markers and four assists.
The Taft-based university just notched their first win of the season, after falling short in their first game against arch rival Ateneo Blue Eagles.
On the other hand, Ildefonso had a career game of 26 points while Clemente chalked up 19 markers, but that was not enough for the Bulldogs to avoid a 0-2 hole this season.
