Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love will play in Thursday’s opening game of the NBA Finals after completing the league’s concussion protocol, the team announced Thursday.

The 29-year-old American suffered a concussion after clashing heads with Boston’s Jayson Tatum in game six of the Eastern Conference finals and missed the decisive seventh game while in the NBA’s concussion protocol.

Love was uncertain Wednesday as the Cavaliers conducted their first practice in Oakland ahead of the opener of the best-of-seven series against defending champion Golden State.

The Cavaliers have faced the Warriors in the past three NBA Finals as well, with Golden State winning in 2015 and 2017 and Cleveland taking the 2016 crown.

Love has averaged 13.9 points and a team-high 10.0 rebounds in the playoffs for Cleveland. In the regular season, Love averaged 17.6 points and 9.3 rebounds a game. (AFP)
