‘Lucky 13’ Ateneo smashes NU to remain spotless
Ateneo just got closer in their quest for three-peat.
The Blue Eagles asserted their dominance by victimizing NU Bulldogs in an 88-51 onslaught in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament at the Ynares Center Antipolo on Saturday October 26.
The Blue Eagles established mastery as early as tip-off with an 11 unanswered points after a JV Gallego’s opening basket for the Bulldogs, 11-2.
Ateneo continued their pounding by mounting with a 44-27 advantage at the first half, until it ballooned to 37-point lead, 88-51, courtesy of Troy Malilin’s reverse layup.
“This was satisfying. Two weeks in a row, we’ve come out with a great attitude,” said Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin.
With that win, Ateneo has one game left for them to book a return trip to the Finals for the fourth straight year with a clean 13-0 slate.
All what is left for the Blue Eagles is to complete a season sweep against the runner-up UP Fighting Maroons on Wednesday.
Angelo Kouame provided a dominant 17-point and 13-rebound double-double output to go with three assists and three blocks, while Thirdy Ravena listed 15 markers, four boards, and three dishes.
Meanwhile, NU remains dead last at the standings with a 2-11 record.
Sean Ildefonso topped the scoring column with 21 points.
