‘Lumaban naman tayo’: Cardel happy with Columbian’s effort despite close loss vs TNT
Columbian coach Johnedel Cardel lauded the performance of his wards even after they came up short of pulling off an upset against league-leading TNT kaTropa, 120-125, on Saturday night in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
The Dyip trailed by as many as 14 points, but stayed around until the final seconds of the game.
“Sabi ko sa kanila, it’s okay to lose to this TNT team. It’s the better team for now. I told them, lumaban naman tayo. We have a good game even though we lost,” said Cardel.
The Dyip were led by steady import Khapri Alston, who had 38 points and 13 rebounds, while Rashawn McCarthy and CJ Perez had 26 and 23 points each for the team in a gallant stand against the top team, so far, this conference.
Cardel rued their bad start that forced the Dyip to play catch up in the second half.
“We had a bad first half. Lack of defense, masyadong mataas ang score. But in the third quarter, we started playing defense. We caught up at nagkaroon kami ng chance manalo,” said Cardel.
Cardel said the TNT game will definitely be a learning experience for his squad moving forward in their campaign in the Governors’ Cup.
