Magnolia vents ire on Blackwater


Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok vented its ire on Blackwater Bossing with a 94-78 rout in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup on Friday at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Andy Mark Barroca and Ian Sangalang tallied 16 points apiece, while Paul Lee added 15 markers as the Hotshots got back on the winning track to improve to 5-1 win-loss slate.

Calvin Abueva had double-double 14 points and 10 rebounds, while rookie Jerrick Ahanmisi added 12 for the Hotshots, which bounced back from a 95-94 loss to Meralco Bolts last Wednesday.

Down by double-digits early in the first half, the Hotshots clawed its way back into the match behind conversions from Abueva and Sangalang to seize a 44-41 halftime lead.

The Hotshots went on with its run in the third on baskets from Barroca, Ahanmisi and Abueva for a 70-51 edge but the Bossing cut it to 57-70 on six straight points by Chris Michael Tolomia.

Magnolia went on to build its largest lead at 19 on nine straight points by Lee. Blackwater made its last push at 77-87 but a three-point play by Sangalang and free throws by Abueva sealed the win for the Hotshots.

Kelly Nabong top-scored with 19 points, while Tolomia added 16 markers as the Bossing dropped to 0-6.
