Major shakeups set to rock PFF, PFL?
By Erel A. Cabatbat
A familiar face and a long time fixture in Philippine football are set to be given new roles in a bid to give the sport the much needed boost it needs in the new decade.
Reliables sources say a prominent personality who has played a major role in the renaissance of football in the country and one of the chief architects behind the Philippine Azkals’ historic run in the 2019 Asian Cup in United Arab Emirates, the country’s first-ever participation in the main draw of the biggest football tournament in the continent, is set to occupy a very important position in the Philippine Football Federation.
One of his immediate thrusts is to strengthen and rejuvenate the country’s several youth teams to make more local talents available to the national training pool that will eventually form future Philippine Azkals teams.
The other personality, long behind the shadows of PFF chief Nonong Araneta, will also move out of his comfort zone and will command the limelight on his own. He will be tasked to run the Philippine Football League, the country’s lone professional football league.
The same sources reveal that a major announcement will be made soon to confirm these changes.
