Mas magaling kay Papa Bear! Gov. Jonvic Remulla compares Carl Tamayo to another UP great
No doubt, the ceiling is really high for UP prized recruit Carl Tamayo.
It also helped Tamayo’s cause that he performed pretty well with Gilas Pilipinas in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.
Cavite Governor and UP’s benefactor Jonvic Remulla even thinks that the 6-foot-7 youngster could be legitimately compared to another Fighting Maroons legend.
“I can honestly say that Carl is the most talented basketball player to come out of high school in the last 35 years,” he said in an exclusive interview with Summit Media.
“Not since Benjie Paras have we seen such a package that Carl offers and has shown at such a young age.”
Paras, along with Eric Altamirano, Ronnie Magsanoc, and Joey Guanio, brough UP’s first and only championship in UAAP back in 1986.
Remulla also sees that Tamayo could end UP’s title drought along with his talented teammates including Terrence Fortea, Gerry Abadiano, Ricci Rivero, CJ Cansino, Malick Diouf, and Joel Cagulangan.
“One man doesn’t make a team. The good thing is that he has a fantastic supporting cast around him,” he said.
“I think we really have a good shot [to win the title].”
