THE Dallas Mavericks paid tribute to Klay Thompson after the veteran sharpshooter officially parted ways with the franchise and prepared to begin the next chapter of his NBA career with the Miami Heat.

“One of the greatest to ever do it. Champion, leader and a true pro. Thanks for everything, Cap,” the Mavericks wrote in their farewell message to Thompson.

The tribute came after Thompson reached a buyout agreement with Dallas, paving the way for him to sign a two-year deal worth nearly $13 million with Miami. The contract reportedly includes a player option for the second season.

Thompson was entering the final year of his Mavericks contract, worth $17.5 million for the 2026-27 season, but sought a move to a championship contender.

Miami emerged as his destination after reshaping its roster, adding another proven perimeter threat to a team led by Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

The 36-year-old spent two seasons in Dallas after joining the Mavericks in a 2024 sign-and-trade deal. He averaged 12.9 points while shooting 38.7 percent from three-point range during his stint with the franchise.

Before arriving in Dallas, Thompson spent 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, where he won four NBA championships and earned five All-Star selections.

Now, after receiving a heartfelt sendoff from the Mavericks, Thompson heads to Miami looking to add another chapter to an already decorated NBA career. (Jesus Nathaniel Valdez)
