Mavs coach Rick Carlisle praises Luka Doncic after win against Blazers
19-year-old Luka Doncic played another superb performance this Monday (Manila time) after beating the Portland Trailblazers 102-101.
Doncic has been the key player for the Mavs and got compliments from coach Rick Carlisle.
“It was one of those times where he was going to have to finish for us to have a chance,” Carlisle said. “I love the fact that he loves carrying the load. He’s one of those dynamic young players that has the charisma to give his teammates confidence.”
Carlisle also addressed the fact that the rookie is carrying the weight of his team on his shoulders.
“There’s more responsibility falling on Luka,” Carlisle explained. “This is an important stretch to feel what it’s all about and what it feels like and what it feels like to have to deliver in all these different areas. He’s certainly capable of doing it. We’ve got to prepare him to carry this load going forward.”
However, the Mavs coach maintained that Doncic is still young and needs more experience. He still has areas to improve on, especially with his three-pointers.
“Sometimes, he needs to be reminded of those things,” Carlisle said. “Our job is to keep his trajectory consistently moving upward and make sure he understands the load and can carry the load.”
Clearly, the rookie is beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. With Doncic improving further everyday, and with the arrival of Kristap Porzingis, the future of the Dallas Mavericks is bright and favorable. (Janiel Abby Toralba)
