Melo Returning to Portland, VanVleet Still With Raps
Carmelo Anthony will remain with the Portland Trailblazers after agreeing to a one-year contract extension, while Fred VanVleet also agreed to a new deal with the Toronto Raptors.
In a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic on Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines), Anthony is finalizing his one-year deal with the Trailblazers, which is a potential contender in the upcoming season.
The reason behind Anthony’s decision to re-sign with Portland was he wanted to show loyalty to the Trail Blazers, who gave him his opportunity to return to the NBA last season.
VanVleet has agreed to a four-year, $85 million deal to re-sign with the Raptors. His contract includes a player option in the fourth season.
Paul Millsap has agreed to a one-year, $10 million-plus deal to return to the Denver Nuggets, according to his agent DeAngelo Simmons.
Millsap’s new deal with the Nuggets came a day after Denver secured his backup power forward JaMychal Green, who has agreed to a two-year, $15M deal after bolting out of Los Angeles Clippers.
In other renewals, De’Anthony Melton has agreed to four-year, $35M deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, Michael Carter-Williams and Gary Clark signed a deal to return to the Orlando Magic, and Denzel Valentine has signed a one-year, $4.7M (qualifying offer) deal with the Chicago Bulls.
