Miami Heat Escapes Los Angeles Lakers
Miami Heat survived a late uprising by the Los Angeles Lakers to escape with a 96-94 victory in the 2020-2021 NBA Season on Saturday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Holding to an 89-79 edge early in the fourth quarter, the Lakers mounted a huge run to come to as close as 92-94 following a three-point play by Kyle Kuzma.
Free throws by Jimmy Butler increased Miami’s advantage to 96-92 with under a minute to go but Los Angeles chopped it to 96-94 on a putback by Wesley Matthews.
Los Angeles had a defensive stop after Alex Caruso stole Miami’s inbound pass but he misfired on a potential game-tying jumper from the corner.
Kendrick Nunn finished the match with 27 points, including five triples, while Butler and Bam Adebayo added 24 and 16 markers, respectively, for the Heat.
This was the first meeting between the two teams since the Lakers defeated the Heat in six games in the finale of the 2019-2020 NBA Season
