Million dollar player? TNT offer P50M to snag Standhardinger from SMB
Is Filipino-German basketball sensation Christian Standhardinger worth his weight in gold?
For TNT KaTropa, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 is worth blowing P50 million or a million dollars just to pry him away from the San Miguel Beermen.
A PBA insider told Fastbreak that TNT has offered P50 million to get the prized Gilas standout and prevent SMB from forming a scary frontline by pairing him with four-time MVP Junemar Fajardo.
The insider declined to say whether the offer was made to the Beermen or Kia Picanto which owned the No. 1 pick which it swapped for Jay-R Reyes, Ronald Tubid, Rashawn McCarthy, and its 2019 first round pick.
The insider noted that the PBA does not allow money considerations as part of team trades on draft picks and players.
TNT had long coveted Standhardinger since showing off his mobility, shooting range and rebounding prowess in Gilas games against much taller and faster players.
PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa revealed that it was TNT assistant team manager Magnum Membrere who submitted to him Standhardinger’s draft application several weeks before the deadline.
Narvasa said this showed that TNT had also negotiated with Kia which ultimately settled on the offer made by SMB.
