Mo’ money for Manny: Fight selfie nets $2m for Pacman
As if his $130 million fight purse and $8 million endorsement deals from Nike and Butterfinger were not enough, Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao earned an extra $2 million for a selfie before he stepped into the ring with American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The New York Post’s Page Six reporter Stephanie Smith said that Pacquiao received $2 million from Samsung for the selfie he took with his trainer Freddie Roach and American talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

That is practically $1 for each of Pacquiao’s 2.44 million followers but not counting the retweets and wide media coverage for the ad placement. Smith reported that this was similar to the “famed selfie” taken by Ellen DeGeneres with Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Spacey, Lupita Nyo’ong, and Meryl Streep at the 2014 Academy Awards. Samsung reportedly paid $18 million to $20 million which was forwarded on Twitter by 2 million times and led to the social media site’s temporary shutdown.
