Nadal retires in Aussie Open match vs Cilic
World no. 1 Rafael Nadal retired during his quarterfinals match against Marin Cilic,3–6, 6–3, 6–7(5), 6–2, 2–0, in the 2018 Australian Open.
Nadal was down 0-2 in the fifth set before deciding to retire because of an injury. Nadal will be out of the circuit for three-weeks after an MRI show that he has an injured hip.
Cilic served up 20 aces that optimized Nadal’s less movement.
Cilic will next face British Kyle Edmund in the semi-finals.
Nadal will still hold the number 1 ranking even if Roger Federer succeed in defending his title at Melbourne.
